BURNEY SAYS: DON'T SLEEP ON ALLEN "AL B SURE" ROBINSON!!
Unless you were his family, friend, fellow student, or teammate, you probably had never heard of Orchard Lake St. Mary's junior Allen Robinson six months ago. My main homeboy, "Al B Sure" a.k.a. "The Sure Thing", made sure that is no longer the case as we sit today with his outstanding play this school year on both the football field and the basketball court. His hoops season may be in the books, but make no mistake about you're going to be hearing about him between now and the fall – on the NATIONAL RECRIUTING SCENE for BOTH sports that is.
Because of injuries, Robinson missed most of his sophomore campaigns on both the gridiron and hardwood and was a bit of a sleeper coming into the football season last August. Not anymore! Robinson is currently shooting up recruiting boards and will most likely have his choice of sports to play at the next level.
"Al B" has gotten super busy to the max this past year and a half, showing his mad athletic skillz over and over again. Robinson played a mean wide receiver/safety for the Eaglets on the gridiron, coming up big in the clutch late in the season on numerous occasions in the squad's run to the D2 state championship game. He recovered a fumble in OT of a critical regular season game last October that won a game for the Eaglets that they ended up needing to qualify for the playoffs. He also caught a TD in the state title game from Penn State-bound QB Robert Bolden on a fly route against a very good East Grand Rapids secondary that displayed his breakaway ability.
On the hardwood, Robinson blossomed this season despite his team's overall struggles due to injury, lack of supporting personnel, and transfer-issues. Averaging 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists per contest, Robinson was a bonafide playmaker all year for the 6-15 Eaglets. HE COULD SHOOT IT FROM DEEP, TAKE IT THE RACK WITH AUTHORITY, FINISH ON THE FASTBREAK, PLAY 'UP IN YOUR SHORTS' D AND SCORE IT IN BUNCHES - WHAT ELSE DO U NEED?
Watch out for OLSM "Sure Thing" next fall on what should be a super good Eaglets football squad. Bolden may be gone, but Darnell Fields is there to take his place chucking the ball downfield for "Al B" and Robinson will be head coach George Porritt's number one-option on offense when the Eaglets hit the field for their opener in 2010. It also a Sure Thing that "The Sure Thing" will play a major role in a potentially-dominating defense. Along with Corey Lucas, he will be spearheading the St. Mary's defensive backfield, as the rabid and tenacious threesome of Marcus "The Sack Man" Gleaves, Cortez "The Terminator" Riley, and James "Doomsday" Ross (possibly the best defensive player in the whole state next season) holding down things up front.
Great stuff man! Burney going all BURNEY on this blog.
