FARMINGTON FLIES TO CHAMPIONSHIP ON WINGS OF YOUTH

Freshman pitcher Tyler Tompson doesn't have a lot of big game experience. If the future can be told in early results, Tompson's future is bright with the game on the line. With his Farmington Falcons going down early in the championship game of the Carelton Aiport High School Spring Invitational against Essexville Garber, Tompson came onto the mound, pitched almost three innings of shutout ball, and got the win. A six run-third inning by the Falcons gave them a lead that Tompson wouldn't relinquish. By the end of the afternoon, they were hoisting the tournament's first place trophy with a 9-8 comeback victory and the young rook, Tompson was the hero.

Farmington's offense was led by Michigan State-signee Joel Fisher, who went 2-for-4, with a home run on the day. Coming in for Tompson in the bottom of the seventh, Brett Linden recorded the final three outs of the game to garner the save.

In order to advance into the tourney finals, the Falcons bested Bay City Western, 9-5, behind the pitching and hitting of Matt Gutknecht, who went the distance on the mound to get the win and went 3-for-3 at the plate with a monster two run-homer in the second.

The Falcons are now 3-2 and set to start league play in the OAA this week.
