It appears West Bloomfield High School is in the midst of complete overall of the leadership at the helm of its major boys sports teams in the fall and winter. First, back in December, Lakers football head coach, James Thomas, parted ways with WB's athletic program and was replaced by his assistant and former University of Michigan wide receiver, Ron Bellamy. Then word leaked out last week that the Lakers hoops head coaching slot was opening up because Andre White was leaving. Interesting things afloat on the "Good Ship Laker"  and can't wait to see the newlook WB next school year

Royal Oak's Sean Lau = the best freshman hitter in the state

Walled Lake Central's Jake Paulson = most dominating hurler in the county so far this year

PAULSON's 2010 STATS = 9-0, leads county in K's and sports a 1.45 ERA

LAU's  2010 STATS  = hitting a whopping .425

AH Avondale's Taylor Drabek went all TAYLOR DRABEK on Monday against Troy Athens smacking a game-winning two run-home run to lead the Yellow Jackets to the 4-3 victory. Interestingly enough, Draybek's teammate, Matt Andrus also went all TAYLOR DRABEK, going a flawless 4-for-4 from the dish.

Congrats go out to my main hooping homeboy, Brandon Carlson of Waterford Kettering, who will be inking with Marygrove to play his college basketball on Tuesday morning.

Speaking of super athletes from the city of Waterford, word is Carlson's good friend and teammate, Ryan Dingman  (someone Burney thinks was one of the area's most-underrated floor generals in OC prep basketball this past year) is deciding between Davenport University in Grand Rapids (where former Captains' sports stud, Kevin Truitt, is on the team) or Northwood, which has just recently undergone a coaching change.

Kudos are also in order for Farmington Falcons quarterback, Matt Craven, who is said to be improving his college recruiting stock with eye-catching performances at a pair of prospect showcase camps he recently attended. Craven – 6-4, mobile, field-savvy w/good but not great arm – has led the Falcons to the MHSAA playoffs both as a sophomore and last season as a junior.

Thurman Hall of Southfield Lathrup has been playing more like Thurman Munson of NY Yankees World Series fame lately = Not only did Hall lead the Chargers to an upset of Birmingham Groves in the Falcons' own house last Saturday, he went 4-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI in his squad's 10-0 rough-up of intra-city-foe, Southfield on Monday. Hall's got that Munson leadership thing down too, leading Lathrup to an 8-1 record thus far in OAA South play.

Good to see my main man, Howard Crippen back from injury and spearheading Clawson's effort on the baseball diamond again. Crippen was 2-2 with a triple, run scored, and an RBI in the Trojans 7-7 defeat of Sterling Heights on Monday.

Obviously, "Megadeath" Mestdagh over at Groves read what I wrote about him not standing for the losing skid his Falcons went on last week, 'cause he came out and did his boy, The Great Burnzini proud by pitching a masterful complete-game in his squad's 4-2, win over an excellent Farmington team to kick off the week this week.
