OC News & Notes

Rochester's Sean Herbon is going to be playing his college hoops at Northwood. Congrats, Sean on taking your game to "The Next Level"!
The Oxford Wildcats pitching staff is "Wilding Out" this season. The Wildcats' rotation of seniors Billy Kammerer, Eric Perry, junior Keith Paslean, and super soph, Mike Kitchner, stacks up with all of the best hurling combos in the area. This group has an aggregate ERA of 1.70 and opposing hitters are putting up a paltry .179 combined batting average against them.
Burney's telling everyone to watch out for these three colossal and dominating studs set to be anchoring their respective teams' offensive lines this upcoming prep football season:
1 Willie Beavers (Southfield Lathrup) – This 6-6 300 pound behemoth is one of the state's top 20 players overall and being courted by all the big boys. Recently got a scholarhsip offer from Michigan State and both Michigan and Ohio State are hot on his very large heels.
2 Jonathon Dozier (Ferndale) – At 6-8, 310 pound this imposing presence of a lineman is an "under the radar-type" who is starting to get a lot of interest from the local mid-majors.
3 Matt Grodin (Novi Detroit Catholic Central) – You will be hearing a lot about this kid over the next two years as he is only going into his sophomore year. He showed well during this past year as a sophomore when he got significant playing time with an overwhelmingly-ferocious and stout Shamrocks' "D, that won a state title. He's ONLY 6-5, 255 pounds right now and it is the general belief that he is still growing. Plays on both sides of the ball and will be a STAR and future D1 recruit.
Speaking of local standouts on the prep gridiron, incoming senior Alex Fine (Lake Orion), an instinctive and hard-hitting safety, who played the first portion of his high school football career in Cincinnati. Fine looked MIGHTY FINE earlier this month while repping himself and the Dragons program to the fullest (along with star teammate and potential all-state tailback, Marques Stevenson) on the field at The Nike Midwest Elite combine in Ohio.
Right now, Fine is being looked at by Michigan, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Missouri, CMU, Navy, Iowa State, Florida Atlantic, and Florida International
