OC Top 5 – Performances on the opening night of the boys basketball state tournament

1 James Young (Troy) – "The Chosen One" lived up to his nickname in the first state tournament game of his career, dropping in 35 points and grabbing eight rebounds in the Colts thrashing of crosstown foe Troy Athens

2 Patrick Onwenu & Landon Atterberry (Southfield) – The Bluejays frontcourt played OUT OF THEIR MINDS on Monday, each posting monster-sized double-doubles in Southfield's 77-73 defeat of an able-bodied and upset-minded Detroit Henry Ford squad. Owenu had 27 points and 18 rebounds, while Atterberry put up 19 points and 17 collected boards in the Bluejays high-octane triumph.

3 Martell Porter (Royal Oak) – This Ravens jumping jack had 20 points and 16 rebounds in Royal Oak's take down of Bloomfield Hills Andover.

4 Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood – Head coach Shane Finney's team did a super job pulling the upset over a stacked Madison Heights Madison squad. MAD PROPS to Alex David for knocking down a game-tying trey ball to take the game into OT and to Sterling Morrow who had a STERLING outing of 27 points, five rebounds and four assists.

5 Andrew Hammett (Rochester Adams) – "The Hammer Time's" 19 point, nine rebound output propelled the Highlanders to an OT win over Oxford. What a great job Hammett and head coach John Hall have done this year, these guys could be the HARDEST WORKING bunch of hoop grinders in the area!!!!

BONUS SHOUT OUT to my boys at North Farmington (AKA TEAM NOGO) for springing the upset against West Bloomfield on Monday....First-rate performances from senior Urbane Bingam (20 points, 11 rebounds) and sophomore Sterling Sharp (12 points, 4 of 6 from 3-point range).
