There's nothing that Burney likes more than the start of the state tournament, no matter what season or sport it is. Since I'm positive this postseason will make up for the pathetic weather we've had over the last few months with an even more than usual thrilling three weeks of playoff madness, I'm extra-excited this year
Observations from the first day of district action in the area's prep sports scene;
UPSET CITY BABY!!!!
AH Avondale pulled the upset over defending state champion Birmingham Marian in girls soccer and RH Adams took out No. 8 in the state Lake Orion on the baseball diamond, putting a surprising end to the Mustangs' and Dragons' seasons. Congrats 'Jackets and Highlanders!
Avondale senior goalkeeper Andrea Strauss is one BAD WOMAN!!! (bad as in good, that is). Is there anything this girl can't do? Best all-around female athlete in the county, bar none…..and U CAN THAT 2 THE BANK!
MAD PROPS to Troy Athens baseball stud Chris Harris, whose bases-loaded double in the bottom of the seventh cleared the bases, keeping the Red Hawks district title hopes alive by catapulting them to a thrilling come from behind 6-5 victory over Utica
Birmingham Brother Rice senior pitcher Andrew Sohn was ITZ aka IN THE ZONE, tossing six innings of two-hit ball, striking out 14 in the Warriors 7-1 takedown of West Bloomfield. Sohn's wizardry on the mound was….wait for it…..LEGENDARY!!!
Clarkston's diamond cutters announced their presence in the state tournament with authority, dismantling defending district champion, Rochester 17-2 in three innings. Way to show'em whose boss, Chase, DP, Sperry and co.!
Burney's homeboy Danny Dulapa went all DANNY DULAPA on BH Lahser in leading the NDP Fighting Irish baseball team to a 3-1 defeat of the host Knights
Play of the day
Star softball slugger Carley Creighton keeping North Farmington's magical season up and running at full steam by smacking a game-winning RBI single in the Raiders' 5-4 win over Northville
