A few Impressions from Thursday night's action on the prep gridiron;
FH Harrison sophomore stud Lorenzo Collins (29 carries, 212 yards and 5 TDs in 48-21 downing of RH Adams - second 200-yard game in a row) has the chance to be the best running back in school history……Yeah, I said it!!!!
Go on with your BAD SELF, Alex Buchanan!!!!!........This kid is SO SUPERBAD, HE'S SUPER GOOD – The WL Western tailback scored the game-winning TD with less than 30 seconds remaining as the Warriors upended crosstown rival WL Central 18-11 for the year-long bragging rights and the league title to boot.
Speaking of EPIC game-winners on Thursday night, WL Northern senior field general Kirk Thomas scored on a 13-yard qb scramble late in the fourth quarter to put away a pesky Lakeland squad 28-21 and stay alive in the quest for the school's first-ever playoff appearance by upping its record to 4-3. Thomas continues to look like NFL All-Pro TOM BRADY running the NORTHSIDE 'O'. He's been GETTING MEGA BUSY under center for the Knights all season long. Combining for almost 300 yards on Thursday to go along with 4 TDS (235 through the air, 66 on the ground), Thomas is intent on making his senior campaign one to remember!!!
BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT – Brandon Thornton; The Ferndale running back busted out for 215 yards and three TDs in the Eagles 27-13 upset win over Birmingham Groves. It looks like the Eagles (3-4) will have the BT EXPRESS to ride for the rest of the year, as they look to play spoiler and close out the season strong.
Earlier this week in the Oakland Press I wrote about some standout freshman varsity ballers from around the area like Juan Johnson (RB MH Madison), Sal Mastromatteo (QB WOLL) and Glacier Wallington (QB/DB Oxford). Along those same lines, MH Bishop Foley FAB FROSH Nate Rhys should also be commended for DOING HIS THANG at quarterback for the Ventures this season. He tossed a trio of TDs on Thursday in Foley's 48-10 trouncing of BH Cranbrook.
I love your comments and always look forward to Burney's Bytes, but I feel you had a glaring omission. Along with those other superstars with 212 and 215 rushing yards was Cody DeVoe from Rochester High - last Thursday's game against West Bloomfield. First game back after a broken collar bone and he rushed for 278 yards, 26 carries and 3 TDs!!!!!
