Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Instant Feedback - Who Runs This Town?

Some thoughts from Friday evening's prep football action from around the area;
OL St. Mary's sophomore Jalen Watts-Jackson = FUTURE SUPERSTAR. JWJ had 2 catches for 55 yards receiving and a 31-yard PICK-6 in the Eaglets 62-20 throttling of Redford Thurston in a D3 district final
The "WELCOM BACK" Award of the evening goes to WL Central's Curtis Booth – Returning after a few games on the shelf nursing an injury, the Vikes bruising powerback rushed for 100 yards and a TD in Central's 45-26 upset win over Clarkston in a D1 district championship showdown.
MAD PROPS to my boyz in the BLUE over at WL Western for continuing to display OUT OF THIS WORLD focus, grabbing a district title in the midst of the continuing controversy surrounding the Warriors program right now. GREAT JOB, MEN!!!!!!(Attn; All my Warrior gridiron homeboys - this on-going saga will only make you stronger as a person going forward in life!!!!)
By The Numbers
391 yards – Rushing total for OL St. Mary's against Thurston
118 – Combined points put up by OL St. Mary's in its first two games of the state tournament
3 – Points that WL Western won by in its district title tilt with upstart South Lyon thanks to another MAJOR LEAGUE CLUTCH EFFORT by sophomore sensation Kyle Bambard, who banged home the only points of the game with a late first half 46-yard field goal. KB is a STUD!!!!
10 – Years since WL Western won district crown before Friday
