Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Five For Fighting – Top Season-Opening Boys Basketball Outings
1 Joe Leonard (Troy) – Tapped as a last-minute starter at the point, Leonard exploded for a career-high 22 points, hitting 4 of 5 from long distance, dished five assists and made four steals in the Colts 81-45 dusting of Utica Ford.
2 Kyle Irvin (Birmingham Groves) – The definition of RAW TALENT and MAJOR LEAGUE UPSIDE. With very little organized playing experience, Irvin had a coming out party in the Groves opening-night 57-52 downing of Waterford Mott, going for a double-double of 21 points and 18 rebounds.
3 Dre Smith (Royal Oak) – Did his best DWAYNE WADE impression by busting up the Stoney Creek 'D' for 29 points, draining 6-of-9 from downtown, in the Ravens' 56-53 victory.
4 Brandon Bean (Southfield) – A force of nature in the paint, the undersized Bean is a master rebounder. In the first start of his varsity career, B-Double blitzed Ferndale for 18 points and 14 boards in the Bluejays' 69-60 win
5 Nathan Drews (RH Lutheran NW) – This junior juggernaut dropped a 38-point spot in the Crusaders' opening-night loss
1 Comments:
Eric Murphy (Southfield Bradford) career high 30 points, 8 rebounds 10 for 10 free throws in 86-36 opening win over Henry Ford School for Creative Studies.
