Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes' Ava Doetsch, one of the state's top two-sport athletes, has found her home at the next level.
Last week, Doetsch, only a junior, gave a verbal commitment to play soccer in college at the University of Nebraska-Omaha of the Summit League.
Doetsch has already captured three state championships. She's been a starting forward on the Lakers basketball squad that has won the past two state crowns and the star midfielder and captain of the school's soccer team that took home a state title back in 2010.
On the soccer pitch, Doetsch has tallied 26 and 27 goals respectively the last two years, while being named all-state following both campaigns.
A rare type of playmaker who can adapt her talent to whichever terrain she finds herself, she is a terror on the hardwood as well, averaging 12 points and seven rebounds a contest for her career thus far.
Currently ranked No. 2 in the state, the Lakers open up playoff action in the Catholic League on Saturday against Detroit Cristo Rey. WOLL is three-time defending Catholic League champs.
