Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

The state of Indiana is known as a shooter's paradise.
Swarms of excellent bombardiers have both honed and showed off their prowess from the perimeter in the nation's heartland hoops Mecca through the past century or so.
Well, the Hoosier State just learned that they'll have a new expert marksmen in their midst the next few years when Clarkston senior basketball star, Nick Tatu, a sharpshooter extraordinaire, announced he will be playing his college ball for the Trine University Thunder, located in Angola, Indiana.
Tatu was a four-year varsity letter-winner for the state power Clarkston Wolves, earning all-league honors as a junior and senior and playing on four consecutive league championship squads. Starting for three seasons in the C-Town backcourt, Tatu shot 50 percent from 3-point range for his prep career. When he was a freshman, he was on a Wolves ball club that advanced all the way into the Class A final four for the first time in close to two decades in 2009
During his senior campaign in 2012, he averaged a team-high 21 points per outing, including pumping in a breathtaking 47 points, connecting on a school-record 12-of-16 from downtown in a game against Troy back in February.
A Division II program that competes in the MIAA, Trine finished 15-11 this past season.
The great thing about Tatu was his desire to expand his game over his time wearing his Wolves duds. He went from merely a bomber as a sophomore to a multi-faceted ball player his final two seasons at the high school level. His ability to take the ball to the rack and finish at the cup improved tenfold, as did his defense. That's all you need to know about this kid's desire and attitude on the hardwood.
IMO; The only difference between Tatu and former C-Town sniper Brandon Pokely, currently playing D1 ball at Western Michigan, is about 3-4 inches….in other words, if Tatu was 6-3, I'd be writing about him signing with a D1 school, not a D2 one.
