Drew Maynard will return home to play his final year of college basketball.

On Friday afternoon, Maynard will officially become a Rochester College Warrior at a ceremony at the school.

Finishing his prep career at Lake Orion as one of the top players in the entire Midwest, the 6-foot-7, athletic and smooth swingman started his college career at Oakland University, earning a starting position his freshman season, before flaming out at the D1 level the following year due to internal issues and constant battles with Golden Grizzlies head coach Greg Kampe.

Transferring to D2 Valdosta State down in Georgia, he medically redshirted in 2011 and then started at forward for the Blazers this past winter, averaging 10 points and 7 rebounds a game.

Arguably the greatest hoopster in the history of Lake Orion High School, Maynard was a three-time all-state selection. Over his final two seasons as a prepster, he led the Dragons to a 40-10 record. As a senior in 2008, he was ranked the No. 3 player in the whole state by ESPN.com.

Snagging Maynard is a great pick up for Rochester College and up-and-coming head coach Klint Pleasant (son of former legendary RC head coach Garth Pleasant and brother to current Rochester HS head coach John Pleasant), even if it's only for one season. He will fit in nicely and give Pleasant and his staff some instant offense and a dynamic presence in the open floor, both Maynard specialties.

Last season, Pleasant's Warriors went 26-8 and lost in the USCAA National Championship Game 54-51 to Oakwood College from down in Alabama.
