Southfield's New Showboat

Southfield High School has gotten itself a new point guard.
Word broke this week that Chris Boatman, two-year starter at Southfield Bradford, has transferred to Southfield and joined the Blue Jays basketball team.
While at Bradford, a fast-rising Class C program the last couple of seasons, Boatman was a standout floor general, averaging 14 points and 7.5 assists per game.
His presence in Southfield's lineup this winter will significantly aid the Blue Jays' attack, allowing longtime head coach Gary Teasley to move all-league swingman Quinton Arnold off the ball and over to the wing, best utilizing his specific skill set.
Last season, with Arnold and fellow senior-to-be's Brandon Bean (forward), Earl Swift (forward) and Darnell Butler (center), Southfield took home its third straight Class A district crown.
When they were sophomores, the talented 'Jays foursome, were reserves on the school's 2011 squad that made a trip into the program's second consecutive final four.
Adding the smooth and savvy Boatman to the attack even further solidifies Southfield as one of the favorites in the race for the OAA Red Division title in 2013, alongside six-time defending champ Clarkston, Pontiac, North Farmington and newcomer Troy.
