Two pairs of brothers hooked up for touchdowns on the Oakland County prep gridiron Friday night and both came from the city of Birmingham.
In Birmingham Brother Rice's 42-24 defeat of Toledo St. Francis De Sales, senior field general Cheyne Lacanaria found his baby brother, Corey, the Warriors fast-emerging playmaking wide out, for seven receptions, 165 yards and a score.
In Birmingham Detroit Country Day's 35-21 downing of crosstown foe Birmingham Seaholm, DCD star junior signal caller Tyler Wiegers connected with his little bro, Tristan, for a second-half touchdown and a 28-7 lead.
Brother Rice and DCD are both favorites to make long runs this football season. Cheyne Lacanaria quarterbacked the Warriors to a Division 2 state championship last year. On Friday against Seaholm, he was a perfect 9-for-9 passing for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
Tyler Wiegers, who already has several D1 colleges flocking in his direction, was 12-20 for 195 yards through the air on Friday. He was one of only two sophomores on the Yellowjackets varsity team in 2011.
Both the Warriors and the 'Jackets hold 2-1 overall records.
