Mr. Basketball Bulletin

There's a good chance Rochester boys basketball star and University of Kentucky-recruit James Young will become the fifth hoopster in the history of Oakland County to be named Mr. Basketball at the conclusion of the 2013 season.
Let's break it down
The five players from the OC to be selected Mr. Basketball:
1 Chris Webber (Birmingham DCD) – Perennial NBA All-Star after heading the infamous "Fab Five" in college up in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan
2 Shane Battier (Birmingham DCD) – Current NBA vet and world champion who was a National Player of the Year in college at Duke where he led the Blue Devils to a NCAA title as a senior in 2001.
3 Dane Fife (Clarkston) – Current Michigan State assistant coach who in college captained the Indiana University to the 2002 National Championship Game, graduating as the Hoosiers all-time leader in steals
4 Paul Davis (Rochester) – Starred in college at Michigan State before playing in the NBA with the LA Clippers and Washington Wizards
Other local players to attain at least 10 votes or more in the voting for the illustrious award that started being given out 32 years ago:
Paul Jokisch (Birmingham Brother Rice) 1982 – Played football and basketball at UofM
B.J. Armstrong (Birmingham Brother Rice) 1985 – All-American point guard in college at Iowa and an NBA first-round draft pick by the Chicago Bulls, where he went on to become a part of three straight World Championship teams
John McIntyre (Novi Detroit CC) 1985 – Had a solid college career in the Big 12 at Missouri as a sparkplug shooting guard
Dwayne Stephens (Ferndale) No. 3 1989 – Former MSU starting forward and current Spartans assistant
Theron Wilson (RO Dondero) 1991 – Started at forward on MAC title EMU squad in 1996
Dugan Fife (Clarkston) 1992 No. 2 – Played on Final Four team and started on Elite 8 team at UofM
Thomas McGee (Pontiac Central) 1992 – Hot-shooting guard who went out to Texas and started in the backcourt at Rice
Paul Grant (Birmingham Brother Rice) 1992 – Played at Wisconsin and Boston College in college and in the NBA

Russ DeSermia (Rochester) 1994
Mike Chappell (Southfield-Lathrup) 1996 No. 3 – Played at Duke and MSU in college, winning a National Title with the Spartans in 2000
Rashad Phillips (Ferndale) 1996 – Superstar in college at UofD
Greg Grays (Southfield-Lathrup) 1997 – Played in Big 10 at Penn State
Kylo Jones (OL St. Marys) 1997 – Played at Western Michigan
Chris Young (Novi Detroit CC) 1998 – Played at Michigan
Nick Moore (Novi Detroit CC) 1999 – Played at Toledo
Maurice Seawright (OL St. Marys) 2000 No. 3 – flamed out at UofM
Ricky Morgan (Pontiac Northern) 2001 – flamed out at Iowa State
Lester Abram (Pontiac Northern) 2002 – played at Michigan
Vova Severovas (Birmingham Groves) 2003 – played at Wright State
Ije Nwankwo (Birmingham DCD) 2003 – played at Purdue
Dan Waterstradt (Novi Detroit CC) 2004 – played at Oakland
Kalin Lucas (OL St. Mary's) No. 3 in 2006 – All-Big Ten point guard at MSU
Dion Sims (OL St. Mary's) 2009 – Current MSU TE and future NFL draft pick
Ray McCallum, Jr.(Birmingham DCD) 2010 – All-League pick at point guard at Detroit
Amir Williams (Birmingham DCD) 2011 – Playing at Ohio State
Carlton Brundidge (Southfield) 2011 – At UofD-Mercy after transferring from UofM
