Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Auburn Hills Avondale changed boys basketball coaches earlier this month.
The good part of the story is that the mid-season switch-up has brought Tim Morton, the sideline general that led Avondale to a state championship in 2002, back to the Yellow Jackets bench.
The bad and the ugly is that it's never good to see a situation get so nasty within a program that a coach has to be fired in the middle of the year and that's what happened at Avondale with second-year Yellow Jackets head coach, Jeff Borja.
Under Borja, the program took a few steps back from the squads in the late 2000s and early-2010s that were raising league title banners.
Entering this week, Avondale is 7-11 and coming off an energizing 50-48 win over a good Oak Park squad on Friday.
Burney thinks despite the unfortunate circumstances that created the situation, it's great to have Coach Morton back in the local prep coaching ranks.
Man, that '02 club was super NICE!!!
Morton, Mike Lewis, Dionte Miller, David Holston and the whole crew were some MEGA BALLERS. I bet those state title rings are still going BLING, BLING more than a decade later.
