Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Kalamazoo College is gobbling up some OC cornbread….aka home cooking on the local prep baseball diamond.
The Hornets have four area high school studs coming into the fold next year in Waterford Mott's Todd Bonniver, Novi's Mario Ferrini and Lakeland's Andrew Laverenz and Jack Flynn, a quadrant of the three of the best players in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association.
Tops of the bunch may be Bonniver, a crafty SS-2B with leadership skills and a timely bat and Laverenz, an ace pitcher. Ferrini is a do-it-all type and Flynn is a hard-hitting, slick-gloved outfielder and both have a shot at making a fast imprint at the college level in 2014.
KZoo skipper Matt Rix carries 10 players who hail from Oakland County on his roster this spring, including captain Eric Glanz (C) out of Walled Lake Central.
Rix and his troops are off to a bumpy start in 2013, opening the campaign 2-11.
