Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Things Burney is most impressed with in the OC through the first two weeks of the football season:
FH Harrison - TEAM HERRINGTON's 2013 campaign may turn out to be a lot better than I thought, a real tribute to that coaching staff and the work ethic and tough-as-nails attitude of this current Hawks' club
Pontiac Notre Dame Prep - I don't know if there is a better up-and-coming young coach in the entire state than NDP's Kyle Zimmerman....just a master tactician and motivator in so many ways. Coach Zimm always has his Fighting Irish squad playing poised and primed on the gridiron, This year is no different. The NDP 'D' has yet to surrender a single point...YEAH, YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY
Birmingham Groves - Your boy Burney seriously overlooked TEAM FLANNERY aka the Groves Falcons GRID GLADIATOR GANG this fall....MY BAD....I already knew Groves super-back Ross Williams was the REAL DEAL, but obviously THE Falcons are the REAL DEAL TOO!!! They will be a factor in the race for the OAA Blue and a gritty opponent for all comers to have to deal with
First-year starting field general Chase Burton & the WL Northern 'O' - Picture me standing up and applauding right now......PURE SICKNESS once again....The MHSAA should mandate a decal warning.CAUTION FLAMMABLE placed on the Knights game gear...that's the kind of THERAFLU we're talking for the second straight year
AH Avondale JR RB Josh Holloman - Might be the best tailback in the whole OC with the highest upside at the next level......and that's saying quite a bit and I am not afraid to say it
WL Western QB Kyle Bambard - FIVE letters OC MVP!!!
