If you want to see possibly the best outside shooter in the state's high school basketball ranks, you only have to go as far as Clarkston to watch senior sharpshooter extraordinaire Nick Owens, the man with such a jet-fast release on his stroke he's earned the moniker "Nick the Quick."
To see Owens play at the college level you won't have to go very far, either.
Nick the Quick, a nails-tough off guard with the C-Town Wolfplack these past three years, committed on Tuesday to play his college hoops locally at Madonna University in Livonia.
Owens averages 20 points per night and shoots 60 percent from downtown.
His brother, Danny (Class of 2007), was a long-range bombing specialists on the perimeter for TEAM FIFE a few years back. Danny played his collegiate ball in Ohio at Ashland University.
With Nick the Quick in the Wolfpack line-up, holding down the 2-spot, the C-Town Cage Crew has won three straight OAA Red titles.
He's a rare specimen, a marksman that is as gritty as can be and isn't afraid of contact and can take it to the rack with authority.
Madonna is 9-6 so far this season and is well-versed in snagging great guards from the OC.
The Short brothers from South Lyon (Jordan and Luke) and Waterford Mott's Khalil Malone are all on the Crusaders roster in 2014.
Don't be surprised to see Nick the Quick doing some quick damage on the hardwood at Madonna come 2015.
