Stirring The Pot

The OC cage-coaching merry-go-round continues to whirl.
Within the past 24 hours, both Waterford Kettering and Birmingham Groves have found themselves in need of new head boys basketball coaches, as Kettering and Ben Kelso cut ties and Groves and Scott Sheckell have decided to go in different directions, too.
Kelso was only at Kettering for a single season, his Captains squad started out of the gate fast (going 9-1), however finished on a downswing, dropping nine of its last 10 ball games. Prior to Kelso's arrival, Kettering had only won a meager two contests in 2013.
A former local prep, college and pro hoopster, Kelso found much early success in his career on the bench; he led his alma mater Detroit Cooley to a remarkable three straight Class A state crowns in the late 1980s.
Sheckell's Groves club had a rough go of it this winter (5-16), but he's only a year removed from guiding the Falcons to a feel-good, championship campaign that shocked the critics, the 2013 season where they grabbed unexpected league and district titles.
When he was in high school, Sheckell and his brother, Steve, were high-scoring guards crosstown at Seaholm.
Earlier this week, Walled Lake Western's boys hoops program and Raredding Murray parted ways, giving the OC a trio of sideline vacancies heading into the spring.
