Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

1 Matt Gatski (RH Lutheran NW RB) – Gatski busted through all the GAPS in the Plymouth Christian defense in NW's thrashing of the Eagles, rumbling for a career-high 235 yards on the ground and 3 rushing TDs
2 Steve O'Connell (Clawson QB) – Replacing a Trojans legends in the graduated Rob Feeman, O'Connell played out of his mind in his first start under center, picking apart the MH Bishop Foley defense for 294 yards and 2 TD's through the air on 17-23 passing.
3 James McDonald (Troy RB) – Forget a farm, the Colts' Old' McDonald had an effort worthy of an entire royal estate  in his team's thorough defeat of Romeo, rushing for 160 yards and 2 TDs
4 Drew Williamson (Milford RB) – Beck gone, Williamson in: playing his first game as the Mavericks starting ball carrier replacing a stat-monger in Cody Beck, Williamson rushed for 173 yards and 4 TDs
5 Jake Duzey (Troy Athens WR) – Look out Big Ten, this future Hawkeye is about to get on a HOT STREAK. With 172 all-purpose yards, including a 50 yd TD reception on offense and 3 sacks on defense in the Red Hawks 12-point win over Warren Mott, Duzey (committed to Iowa) has the Athens faithful talking playoffs for the first time in a while.
