Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Burney's Boys Basketball Rankings - Mix Up In The Middle

OC TOP 10
1 (tie) Birmingham Detroit Country Day – Starting point guard Chris Fowler is BACK from injury with a VENGANCE and that makes a spectacular 'Jackets hoop crew even better. Making up for lost time, Fowler dished off 10 assists in DCD's blowout win over Cleveland King on Saturday
1 (tie) Southfield – Bluejays all-conference center Patrick "The Money Man" Onwenu is a very quiet young man OFF the court. ON the court is a different story all together. CASH MASTER ONWENU has an inside game that SPEAKS VOLUMES.
2 Pontiac – Jamal Barr is the most underrated "No. 2 guy" aka "Scottie Pippen" in the Metro Detroit area. He is the reason the Phoenix are ranked so high!
3 Novi – Samier "The Big Sham Wow" Ozeir and his frontcourt running mate, Chris "The Million Dollar Man" Milon are a pair of WALKING and TALKING double-doubles.
4 Novi Detroit CC – Senior guard Shea Kettner has yet to hit his stride and the Shamrocks are still looking VERY SCARY.  That in itself is VERY SCARY!!!!
5 (tie) North Farmington – The Raiders Sterling Sharp is a SENSATIONAL SOPH on the basketball court, but word is he is an ever better college prospect on the baseball diamond as a fireballing menace on the mound.
5 (tie) Orchard Lake St. Mary's – Star swingman Allen Robinson's return to the lineup and a big time defeat of UofD-Jesuit springboards the Eaglets into the 5-spot. Could Corey Lucas be having a better senior year so far? I DON'T THINK SO!
6 Berkley – Ryan Bush is playing so well he could wind up earning himself a scholarship by season's end
7 AH Avondale – Ray Tillman is making a serious case for himself as being the best two-sport athlete in the county……It seems fitting that Tillman's nickname is "SUGAR RAY" because his game is as SWEET as CANDY!!!
8 Troy – Colts floor general Evan Mahone is one of the best "in rhythm" shooters around. Don't leave this kid open or he'll make you pay with a barrage of 3-point bombs
9 (tie) Clarkston – Sophomore starting point guard Jordan Dasuqi appears to be rounding into form as the next rock-steady floor general of the future for head coach Dan Fife and the C-Town faithful.
9 (tie) RH Adams – This season Highlanders head coach John Hall is showing his merit as a first-rate X&O master, coaching the heck out of a lunch pail group of floor burn specialists.
10 (tie) Birmingham Brother Rice – Could drop out of the rankings if the Warriors don't bounce back this week with a better showing in CHSL play.
10 (tie) Pontiac Notre Dame Prep – I really like Ross Lindeman in the post for the Fighting Irish. He compliments the NDP "Big 3" of McCormick, Dulapa and De Martis very nicely.
