Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

There are lots of assistant coaches on the bench this prep boys basketball season with quite accomplished on-court resumes themselves
Let's take a look at a few:
Burney's All-Assistant Coach Team
My Starters
Lindsey Hunter (Southfield Christian) – Former NBA First Round draft pick and 13-year league vet....oh, yeah, 2-time WORLD CHAMP as well!!
Clennie Brundidge (Southfield) – Played for Coach K at Army in the 1970s as a hard-nosed 2-guard
Jimmy King (OL St. Mary's) – FAB FIVE…enough said!!!!
Mychel Covington/Nucleus Smith (Pontiac) – Covington, the former wing defensive specialist who is doing Coach Kampe and the Oakland Grizz proud on the bench as head coach-in-training for the Phoenix and Smith, who took Pontiac Northern on his back into a Class A Final Four as a senior 11 years ago, give me that 'Yacktown toughness
Paris McCurdy (Southfield) – All-Conference big fella in the MAC at Ball State back in the late 80s and early 90s…Took Cardinals into the NCAA Sweet 16 in 1990 before losing a two-point heartbreaker to eventual National Champ, UNLV.
My Bench
Brandon Edwards (Southfield-Lathrup) – Edwards was fairly good as a college baller at Fairleigh Dickinson a decade or so ago after starring as a Charger in the late 90s.
Todd Negoshian (North Farmington) – This gritty little sparkplug of a point guard led Oakland County in scoring as a senior at Walled Lake Central in 1998.
Herb Goliday (Ferndale) – Could really fill'em up as an Eagles all-stater back in the day
Jason Webber (Birmingham DCD) – Would give me solid "grunt minutes" off the pine in the post…you can't replicate the kind of state championship experience ('95 'Jackets title) a guy like Webber would bring into the fold
