Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Prep Football Picks - Week 2

Week 2 – Top Games in Oakland County
FH Harrison v. Southfield – Burney loves him some Lorenzo Collins!!!! The Hawks STUD SOPH running back busts loose for another 120 and 2 scores against a speedy Southfield 'D', repeating his effort from Harrison's dominating opening-night win against Cass Tech and spoiling the day for the Blue Jays fans in attendance
Harrison 34, Southfield 24
Hazel Park v. AH Avondale – If history is any indication, another pinball machine-like game is in store for those in attendance at this OAA Blue showdown on Friday……..EXPECT A TON OF POINTS
Avondale 56, Hazel Park 49
AA Pioneer v. Birmingham Brother Rice – The Warriors' Joey Warner is the most underrated tight end in the state!!! Yeah, I said it!
Rice 31, Pioneer 17
Pontiac v. Troy Athens – I have a very strong feeling that all of Oakland County is about to have a severe case of RED HAWK FEVER this fall!!!!!
Athens 24, Pontiac 18
Clarkston v. West Bloomfield – C-Town is on a mission in 2011 and they keep playing like it!! My main man, Joey Goss goes BONKERS and puts up a 200-spot on the WB defense (CHALLENGE TO THE LAKERS; prove me wrong!!!)
C-Town 35, WB 21
Oxford v. Southfield-Lathrup – Collin Goetz might be the best offensive lineman in Metro Detroit!!! Burney thinks if he would have waited a little longer before committing to CMU back in the spring, he might have garnered some BIG 10 offers. He's that much of a HOSS!!!
Oxford 43, S-Lathrup 22
WL Western v. Novi – Western's Josh Strange proves he has one of the most MONEY legs in the state, booting a game-winning FG on the road against the Wildcats as time expires
WLW 23, Novi 20
RH Adams v. Farmington – The legend of Bryan Green continues!!!
Farmington 28, Adams 25
Rochester v. Lake Orion – Head coach Chris Bell will have the Dragons primed for a big bounce-back after getting shellacked on opening-night by Oxford. My heart wants to pick my boyz in BLUE and WHITE, but my mind is saying that there is no way that LO will have back-to-back down outings. CHARRETE SHREDS AGAIN!!!!
LO 33, Rochester 27
Birmingham Seaholm v. BH Andover – Maples senior quarterback John Glazier goes all JOHN GLAZIER on the Barons defense, lighting up the stat sheet for 220 yards passing and three TDS in a second straight Seaholm victory on the road
Seaholm 36, Andover 16
Oak Park v. Stoney Creek – James Gault is so tough to bring down on the field for Oak Park, sometimes he looks like former NFL speedster Willie Gault!!!
OP 22, The Creek 20
Troy v. Royal Oak – Watch your back Colts, the Ravens are hungry for another win after grabbing their first in four years last week. If TEAM GRIFF doesn't overlook the Jeff Hill-led Oaktown crew, Troy should be able to collect its first triumph of the campaign
Troy 21, Royal Oak 15
