Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Five For Fighting – Best performances on the prep gridiron Friday night
1 Brett Zdebski (WL Western) – The Warriors' emotional leader rushed for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Western to an exhilarating 21-20 double overtime win over Port Huron and a D1 regional title
2 Jason Gamble (WL Western) – Western's two-sport star who signed with Central Michigan for baseball on Thursday, was a menace rushing the passer on Friday in the Warrior's regional championship showdown with Port Huron, bringing constant pressure while collecting a pair of sacks and one forced fumble.
3 Connor Ruby (WL Western) – This senior sparkplug scored the game-winning touchdown in the second overtime of the Western victory
4 Zac Leimbach (WL Central) – In defeat (38-21 to Utica IKE), the Vikings all-league quarterback connected on 13-of-23 pass attempts for 125 yards and one touchdown, as well as spearheading a Central offensive attack that broke Eisenhower's three-game shutout streak. Concludes his career under center as one of the best football players to ever wear a Vikings uniform.
5 The ENTIRE WL Western football team– Under the most rigorous conditions possible, WARRIORSNATION has been the picture of poise, focus and professionalism. The result, an almost unthinkable run into the program's first FINAL FOUR in a decade. WAY TO GO FELLAS!!!!!!
