There's something special about Waterford Kettering's Kim Jayson.

Whether on the softball field or on the volleyball court, the Captains senior two-sport star displays prolific flair in whichever endeavor she is competing in.

Jayson was a three-year starter with the Kettering's spikers that past three seasons and is a returning all-league standout on the diamond with a Captains team many view as a potential serious sleeper this spring in the area's prep softball scene.

Last season, she hit .430 from the plate and mentored a talented crew of freshman and sophomores. So far this spring, Kettering is enjoying the fruits of last spring's labor put forth by Jayson and the Captains FAB FROSH.

The battle-tested and hungry Captains are currently an unblemished 4-0 on the season and swept a doubleheader from Ortonville Brandon on Thursday in dominating fashion. Kettering got the win 11-0 in the first game and 12-6 in the second one.

Doing most of the damage was the Captains' very own SPECIAL K.

Lighting Kettering's brand new field on fire with her bat, Jayson had five hits, including two monster home runs in the second game, to go along four RBI on the day.

Next year, she will be continuing her career on the softball diamond at Concordia.

Star power seems to run in the Jayson family. SPECIAL K's big bro is Jeff Jayson, the up-and-coming master tactician of a head boys basketball coach at Waterford Mott, who led the Corsairs to both league and district titles last winter in his first year on the bench. When he was a prepster with Mott back in the early 2000s, JJ was a high-scoring guard on the basketball floor as well as the school's quarterback on the football field, prior to going on to have an All-American D3 hoops career at Aquinas College.

Burney expects KJ to follow JJ's lead and bring home league and district titles for the Captains on the diamond this spring as well.

I mean when you're dealing with the Jayson family, is there really any questions they're going to come through in the clutch?
