Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

A Brave New World

The Bradley University Men's Basketball Team may have an all-Oakland County starting backcourt in its future.
On Monday, former Lake Orion point guard Anthony Fields (6-2) transferred to Bradley from Wake Forest, where he played his freshman campaign this past winter.
Fields joins former Oak Park combo guard Jalen Crawford (6-4), who will be a sophomore next season, on the Braves' roster.
As a freshman, Crawford averaged 3 points per game in reserve duty. When he was a prepster at Oak Park, he put up 22 points, five assists and five rebounds per contest as a senior. Crawford comes from GRADE-A hoop stock; his eldest brother Joe, won a state title at Detroit Renaissance & played at Kentucky in college. His other big bro, Jordan, played collegiately first at Indiana and then at Xavier and is currently enjoying a successful NBA career with the Washington Wizards.
Fields started his prep career at Lake Orion, playing alongside all-state swingman Drew Maynard (Oakland U/Valdosta St.), before leaving Michigan and graduating from a prep school.
Bradley is looking to rebound from a 7-25 record last season.
