Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Grid Watchers - Avondale Aces

Here's a look at a few Avondale Yellowjackets to watch out for this fall on the football field
Clark Clancy (OL/DL) – This 6-foot-5, 270 pound MONSTER IN THE TRENCHES has D1 offers from Western Michigan, Bowling Green and Akron and is one of the top lineman prospects in the area for the Class of 2013; Just a grinder!!
Note: Clancy busts a move on the hardwood, too, patrolling the post for Avondale's varsity basketball squad since he was a sophomore on a league title team in 2011.
Michael Johnson (RB) – Burney's No. 1 sleeper at the running back position in Oakland County for the incoming senior recruiting crop!!! Yeah, I said it……A 3-year starter, the word PLAYMAKER comes to mind when speaking of this trailblazer toting the rock
Eric Stubbs (WR/DB) – Another playmaking speedster for the 'Jackets offense that will line up and start at split end and cornerback. Entering his second season as a starter, Stubbs could be in store for a breakout campaign finding the goal line depending on the team's development at the quarterback spot (forced to replace ALL-EVERYTHING GUNSLINGER Mitch Robinson, one of the state's most prolific quarterbacks ever). Burney says, BET ON IT!!
