Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Sydni Davis, one of the area's top prep girls basketball players, will still be wearing a letter 'L' across her chest next winter as a senior on the hardwood, but it won't stand for the Lakers anymore.
It will stand for Lathrup, as in the Southfield-Lathrup Chargers.
Davis, a prolific three-year starter in the backcourt for West Bloomfield, has recently transferred to Southfield-Lathrup to finish out her high school career.
Last season, Davis led the WB Lakers to a Class A district championship. She is a part of only a small handful of girls cage prospects from Oakland County's Class of 2013 to be considered a Division I recruit.
Her arrival at state power Lathrup will cushion the blow from losing Michelle Hayes – the Chargers' all-league floor general off to play her college ball in the MAC at Toledo –, and continue on the tradition of standout guards spawning from the program, following in the steps of the likes of Hayes, Kyra Littlejohn and Tiffany Williams.
Joining forces with fast-rising combo guard Erica Longmire in the Chargers' backcourt,, Davis will help lead a Lathrup squad this upcoming season in search of its third district title in a row.
