Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Weekly Football Rankings - Guess Who's Back

Birmingham Brother Rice – BACK ON THE MOUNTAIN TOP!!! The Warriors are once again the No. 1 team in the OC.......WAR TEAM FRACASSA!!!
Novi Detroit CC – Burney's super excited to see the Shamrocks face off with Ohio power Cincinnati Moeller in Week 3
Clarkston – Threat to make a long run this season!!! DESTINATION: FORD FIELD?
Lake Orion – Is there a more dangerous slotback in the OC than the Dragons Zach Arnold?
(tie) Farmington – Impressive road win in Week 2 against Southfield, Burney's sleeper in the race for the OAA White this fall
(tie) FH Harrison – I think every time senior Garius "G-FUNK" Coleman catches a pass this year the PA should play Warren G's classic 'Regulate', specifically the part that's says 'You don't want to step to this, it's the G-Funk ERA funked out with a gangster twist'
OL St. Mary's – Team PORRITT made a jarring statement with its convincing win over Toledo St. Johns in Week 2
Southfield – Mere inches away from being 2-0
Oak Park – SIZZLING SOPH Johnny 'Machine Gun" Kelley is a two-way superstar in the making… the time he's a junior next year he'll be a top tailback and cornerback in the OAA
(tie) WL Western – Just a tremendous amount of pure speed on this year's version of TEAM Z, maybe the most the savvy sideline general has seen in his time wearing the head phones at Western…..'The Tribe' is an underrated student section in Metro Detroit….Yeah, I said it!!!!
(tie) Lakeland – Loving the fact that Ross Heiman is carrying on the family field general legacy for TEAM MALTEESE
BH Lahser – Two words; Nate Emery…..'Nuff said!!!
