Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

A lot of people don't know this, but Orchard Lake St. Mary's starting senior quarterback Matt Linehan, who just spearheaded the Eaglets to their first Catholic League title since 2005 over the weekend in the Prep Bowl, started his high school athletic career at Birmingham Brother Rice.
Linehan just landed at St. Mary's a couple of years ago.
The all-league signal-caller is a prototype drop-back passer and even though this is his first year starting under center on the Eaglets varsity, the college recruiters are already beginning to sniff in his direction.
He's also a standout small forward on the basketball court in the winter, having helped lead St. Mary's to a Class A regional championship last year.
What if he would have stayed at Rice?
Funny how fate is sometimes, isn't it?
