Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Up and Gone

Nate is no longer a Knight…..Or a Blackhawk for that matter.
Local prep football star Nate Emery has left Bloomfield Hills Lahser and enrolled at Utica Eisenhower.
Last season as a sophomore, Emery was one of the top tailbacks in Oakland County, rushing for 1,250 yards and 14 touchdowns, being named all-OAA and all-state in Division 3, while helping lead the Knights into the playoffs.
If he had stayed at Lahser and merged with his former teammates into Bloomfield Hills High School, the Blackhawks would have had quite the three-headed monster on offense made up of Emery, quarterback Spencer McCourt and wide receiver Khalil Gracey.
As it stands now, seniors McCourt and Gracey will have to go at it by themselves this fall, (in their new Black and Purple digs) without their one-time superstar rushing threat at their side.
Eisenhower is a public school power in Macomb County. In 2012, the Eagles finished 8-3 and lost in the district finals. The prior two seasons, they won district and regional crowns respectively.

I hear that he wants to play QB and doesn't want to wait for McCourt to graduate.
