Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Force of Nature

Brandon Altman went BEAST MODE down the stretch in Birmingham Seaholm's monumental 17-16 upset of Southfield in the first-round of the 2013 football playoffs.
Altman, the Maples quarterback, kicked it into overdrive in the final three and a half minutes, throwing a pair of touchdowns (21 yards to Justin Bryant, 30 yards to Austin Paritee) to lead Seaholm to the victory.
He is without question that most pleasant surprise of all the area's first-year starting field generals. He shreds defenses with his arm and slaughters them with his legs.
The picture of poise and composure at the controls of the Maples' offense, Altman has led the program to its second straight OAA Blue championship and its first win in the postseason since 2005.
The ability to overcome adversity like he's displayed the last couple weeks is another impressive aspect of his season under center.
His tantalizing effort in the stat sheet Friday versus a glitzy Southfield lineup (155 yards, two touchdowns in the air, 100 yards on the ground) was on the heels of his worst outing of the year in Week 9 against U-D Jesuit (3 picks) and without his No. 1 receiver Aaron Ware (set to return in the district finals following two weeks on the shelf with a minor ankle injury).
This kid is the REAL DEAL HOLYFIELD!! Plain and Simple!!
No matter what happens from this point forward for Altman and his Seaholm teammates, the senior signal-caller has done himself and all of MAPLESNATION proud, exceeding expectations and etching his name in the school's history books as a true MAROON&WHITE playmaker aka a bona fide BALLER AND SHOT CALLER in the annals of B'HAM prep sports for the ages!!
