Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

A pair of former OC boys hoopsters are making their presences felt in the PSL this winter.
Jermaine King, who was at Ferndale for his sophomore year and part of his junior season, is tearing it up on the court at Detroit Osborn.
Dietrich Cole, who spent time at both Southfield-Lathrup and Ferndale (mostly on JV), is holding things down in the post at Detroit East English Village Prep.
Both have a very good chance of landing at the next level and playing in the college…i.e….they're upsides are incredibly high.
King is a versatile and athletic 6-foot-7 forward. He started on Ferndale's 2012 Class B district title team as a sizzling sophomore, showing the ability to go inside-out, brutally effective attacking the tin and soft-stroking from mid-range and beyond. In Osborn's most recent game, a 64-45 clobbering of Windsor Forester out of Canada he coolly dropped a staggering double-double, scoring 28 points and snatching 12 boards.
Cole is a rangy 6-foot-9 skyscraper that's been patrolling the paint with spry intensity in his new digs at The 'Vill. When he was in the OC he always showed tremendous promise in practice and in the summer. It's nice to see him finally putting it all together. He looked really good in his club's dub in the annual Motor City Roundball Classic.
