Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Painfully Effective

Out of practically nowhere, Walled Lake Central's Kyle Wilkie is 'The OC K King" this spring.
He's racking up strikeouts on the prep baseball diamond at an EPIC clip.
In each of the past five times he's taken the hill, he's registered double-digit K totals, absolutely dumbfounding the competition.
The definition of crafty and composed, Wilkie is by far the area's most improved player on the mound. His name didn't even make it onto the Oakland Press' Pre-Season Top Player Preview last month.
It's been incredibly hard to tell, with Wilkie in VERLANDER MODE all year long so far.
On Wednesday, he fanned 11 in just five innings of work in the Vikings 4-1 defeat of league-foe Waterford Mott.
Wilkie and his Central battery-mates are 15-3.
