Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Dodging A Bullet

Burney was as happy as a kid on Christmas Day when he got the good news about his MAIN PIGSKIN HOMEBOY Birmingham Brother Rice senior wide receiver Delano Madison. My man MR. ABSOLUTE MADNESS survived an injury scare in the Warriors opener Saturday at the PKC when he took a helmet to the knee in the third quarter of TEAM SOFRAN's 40-34 clipping of Chicago Brother Rice. Luckily, the MRI results were negative and there was no tear, just a deep bruise. I was thinking of him and praying for him all Labor Day weekend. He's such an immense talent it would have truly been tragic if he had been forced to miss a second straight season of competition (after EXPLODING in the ORANGE&BLACK playoff run to the crown as a sizzling soph JV call-up in 2012, The OC FLASH broke his leg on the first practice of the 2013 campaign. To say he made an impression in his return to the field Saturday prior to going down would be the understatement of the CENTURY!!! He had a pick and two touchdowns in less than two minutes to open the game......YEAH, U READ THAT CORRECTLY. This young man is a Game-Changer in every sense of the term. For the record, Burney just changed shirts and took a shower that's how much he was sweating D-MAD's prognosis. We dodged a bullet, baby!! Now, go out and continue to set the gridiron ablaze!!

Scott,

I know that Delano and the rest of the Warriors are grateful for your prayers regarding his knee. Delano's a great player, but he's an even better person and he didn't deserve to have a second season lost to injury. We are thankful that Delano's injury was not serious and thankful for your positive thoughts and kind words.

Carry On!!
