Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

OC boys hoops quick hitters
If WL Central junior 5-foot-10 combo guard Walter Kelser was just three or four inches taller he might be the most deadly player in the whole state…….Yeah I said it!!
Troy Athens is my potential darkhorse entering tourney play in a week – I can see the Red Hawks going to the Elite 8
Hazel Park senior Julius Giles might be the No. 1 player in the area YOU'VE never heard of it…..kid's got mad game!!
AH Avondale's Tim Morton for coach of the year!!!!
Burney loves himself some WL Western 'BIG 4' of Bailey, Booker, Flowers & Porter......those are some straight Gs right there.....another couple of crownings anyone?
Mad Shout Outs to Southfield Bradford for its first league championship in school history – the Bulldogs claimed the Charter League crown Friday night. 'BB' Roll Call: Quantas Ruffin, DeLeon McDaniel and Cordell Kelly make up a very good frontcourt, senior "Little Ra" Murray has been rock solid in the backcourt.
Novi Detroit Catholic Central sophomore C.J. Baird is one of my favorite tenth-graders in the county right now
Southfield Christian's Brock Washington is on the verge of reaching SWAGGER LEVEL FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND TRILLION….I'll let you know when it happens (I'll give everyone a hint, I think it could come in the next few weeks)
