Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

The Southern Way

Farmington Hills Harrison senior girls basketball star Kristin Nelson might go down as the greatest female hoopster in Hawksnation history – yes, she's THAT good. And the mark she's already left on the Harrison program is indelible. The crownings speak for themselves (first-ever basketball district title, girls or boys, in school history, a league championship in the ultra-competitive OAA Red).
Earlier this week, Nelson, a lethally-smooth combo guard with BIG PLAY written all over her game, committed to Southern Illinois University for her college ball.
Southern Illinois is a rock-solid squad competing in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Salukis finished 17-13 in 2015.
Nelson and her running mate on the hardwood Amber Stephens, another senior backcourt gem certainly bound for the college ranks, will have Harrison in the hunt for more hardware for its trophy case come this winter. So go and check out The Big Green Hoop Machine aka TEAM MICKLASH for one more season of K&A KAGE FEVER…...you won't be disappointed and that's a Certified Burney Guarantee!!
