Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Five For Fighting - District Dominance

OC Top 5 – Performances From District Championship Weekend
1 a Jeff Schalk (MH Bishop Foley) – pitched a perfect game in Bishop Foley's 2-0 victory over MH Madison in a D3 baseball district final
1 b Kara Del Bianco (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep) – pitched a perfect game in NDP's 10-0 defeat of BH Cranbrook Kingswood in a D2 softball district final
2 Nick Regnier (Novi) – went the distance on the mound and launched a home run to go along with a game-high 5 RBI in Novi's 14-7 topping of Farmington in a D1 baseball district final. Regnier also walks away with Burney's very own, WARRIOR OF THE WEEKEND AWARD, for his ability to take a licking and keep on ticking. The fearless senior captain took a fastball to the eye while in the batter's box in the fourth inning and instead of some who would have called it day and let his teammates take the baton from there, Reginer MANNED-UP and grinded it out for TEAM WILDCAT the rest of the way. WAY TO GO, NICK!
3 Ava Doetch (Waterford our Lady of The Lakes) – registered three goals and three assists in WOLL's 8-0 trouncing of Byron in a D4 soccer district final....quick side note: Burney is just wondering is there anything in this world this young lady can't do and do super well? I mean Burney thinks if President Obama was "in the know" over here in the OC he might seriously consider sending young Ms. Doetch to Iraq to be in charge of our nation's war effort...lol!
4 a Matt Rodgers (Clarkston) – tossed a one-hitter with 7 k's in Clarkston's 6-0 downing of Hartland in a D1 baseball district final
4 b James Edwards (Orchard Lake St. Mary's) – tossed a one-hitter with 10 k's in OLSM's 2-0 triumph over BH Cranbrook Kingswood in a D2 district baseball final
5 Greg Fettes (MH Lamphere) – blasted a grand slam home run in addition to 8 RBI over a two-game stretch in which Lamphere blazed its way to a D2 baseball district title over at Warren Fitzgerald.
