Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

The Gang's All Here

There are quite a few high quality receiving units on the footbal field this season in Oakland County. Here are some of my favorites:

OL St. Mary's - Allen Robinson, Thomas Sellers, Keith Stonestreet (KS is the most underrated No. 2 wideout in the area)

Lake Orion - Zach Zott, Danny Ney, Cole Schaenzer, K.J. Ester (most versatile)

AH Avondale - Ray Tillman, Tony Harris, Ryan Brancheau, Taylor Drabek (TE)  - most explosive part a

FH Harrison - Aaron Burbridge, Jake Vento, Garius Coleman, Devin Funchess (TE) - most explosve part b

MH Madison - Danny Larkins, Jared Eason, Tyree Monroe, Devonte Snyder (TE) - most explosive part c

Farmington - Jason Wilson, Dae'von Scarber, Kyle Humphrey - most explosve part d

Birmingham DCD - Kenny Knight (when "Extra Crispy" Knight is on the field he is a one-man receiving corps)

RO Shrine - Bertram Marks, Blake Washington, Jack Wangler, Jared Wangler

MH Lamphere - Mitch Kozlowski, Jerry Conner, Mike Middleton (TE) - for some reason this group seems to be being under utilized this fall

Brother Rice - Devin Church, Nick Dunn, Matt Ogren (developing super fast in replacing all-state tandem of Martin-Manley and Salvidar-Garcia)

Birmingham Seaholm - Shawn Conway, Chris Bahr, Kai Czajka (started fast, leveling out due to injuries and other things)

Dear Burney-
Thanks for the love you have given the Avondale Jackets over the past month. The are an exciting group to watch be sure to get out to see them before the season is done. Point of clarification...
Tyler Drabek (not Taylor) is our kicker and occassional wideout. Trevon Salter is the #3 wideout and Brancheau is the TE. Unless ofcourse we are 4 wide which is most of the time :)

Make sure Caputo knows who the hotest QB in the county is. His love fest with Charette is over the top. If Robinson played behind LO's line he would already have 3000 yards.

Thanks again-
