Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Rarified Air

The Madison Heights Lamphere girls soccer squad is in the midst of making history, going on its longest playoff run ever. At the head of the pack for the Rams' assault is senior Katlyn Krisiak, a scoring machine with few equals on the prep level.
On Tuesday she scored a hat trick in her team's 4-0 defeat of St. Clair Shores Lakeview in the regional semifinals. And she did it in quite dramatic fashion – all three of Krisiak's goals came within 9:06 in the late second half, breaking open nil-nil tie.
She now has a total of 28 goals on the season and 96 for her career. If and when she reaches the 100 mark, she'll place herself in some pretty elite company, only the fifth girls player in Oakland County history to ever reach the century plateau.
The others: Kristi Arrington (148 – 4th all-time Novi, 1997-2000), Cindy Waas (137 Troy Athens 1984-1987 – scored a county-record 52 goals during her junior campaign in 1986), Stephanie Crawford (130 Novi 2001-2004), Becky Neal (121 AH Oakland Christian 1996-1999), Julie Lutfy (100 AH Oakland Christian 1991-1994 – was also the starting shooting guard on the Lancers' 1992 state championship girls hoops squad)
Krisiak and the Rams are 15-5-1 heading into their regional championship match-up with Linden on Friday night at Bloomfield Hills Andover.
