Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Go East Young Lady

Tori Duffey is a girl on the move.
This summer the senior standout girls hoopster came over to Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes from Walled Lake Central to try to take home a state basketball title before the curtain closes on her varsity career in March.
Following her short and hopefully extremely prosperous stay in LAKESLAND this winter, she will be moving to the east coast to continue her playing career in college.
Duffey, a smooth and savvy playmaker on the hardwood, has recently verbally committed to play at the University of New Hampshire.
The past two seasons, Duffey has been selected all conference in the KLAA with WL Central, where she was a three-year varsity letter winner.
She will enter the WOLL lineup this year and take the place of departed all-state superstar Lauren Robak, who is currently playing up the road at OU after leading the Lakers to three consecutive Catholic League crowns and back-to-back Class D state championships from 2009-2011.
Joining the ace newcomer in the Lakers quest for the repeat in 2012 will be a versatile and experienced group of MEGA HUNGRY HOOPSTRESSESS like Lexie Robak (Lauren's little sis), Ava Doetsch, Carlee Cottrell, Jessica Parry and Haley Howell.
Robak, Doetsch and Cottrell were all all-league picks last season, while Parry and Howell were superior role players that will be asked to contribute more offensively this year. Also look for Anna Robb, younger sister of former WOLL star guard Allison Robb, to be a key part of the puzzle for the BLU CRU in 2012. Much like her big sis, Anna is a crafty and hard-nosed competitor that is all about winning and nothing else.
During the spring, Robb and Doetsch are high-scoring forwards for the school's state title (2010) soccer team.
On the subject of high scoring STUDSTRESSES, my main hardwood homegirl, Carlee Cottrell, a dead-eye long distance specialist who has effectively improved her move to the rack and her playmaking skills over the last six months, might be the next Lakers BALLER to accept a D1 scholarship.
Its a BLU, BLU World, we're all just living in it!!!!!!!
