Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Balling Across The USA

Burney's crossing the nation looking for the best and brightest Oakland County hoop studs playing in college for the 2011-2012 campaign;
OC Small School All-American
G Chris Bellamy (Novi) Spring Arbor – Silky smooth guard that also QB'd Novi on the gridiron
G Mike Fugate (Lakeland) Saginaw Valley State – The consummate floor general who could easily play in the MAC
F Ryan Aaron (MH Madison) Southern Nazerene (OK) – An athletic wing who is possibly the best OC slam dunker of last decade
F Mike Pryzdzial (West Bloomfield) Grand Valley State – Workhorse in the paint looking to rebound from injury-plagued redshirt season last winter
C Joe Prepolec (BH Andover) Kalamazoo – A dominant small school big fella
G Eric Fishman (BH Cranbrook) Kalamazoo – Has really rounded out his game and developed into a rock steady point guard on the college level. No longer just a great scorer
G Ken Brown (FH Harrison) Ferris State – Pure scorer. NUFF SAID!!!
F Bryan Coleman (Southfield-Lathrup) Wayne State – A force on the wing or in the paint, should be playing D1
F Drew Maynard (Lake Orion) Valdosta State – Very talented wing hoping to rehab his college career down South in Georgia
G Damacious White (Berkley) Davenport – Solid on both sides of the ball, playmaker on offense as well as a hardworking defensive specialist.
OC All-D1 Team
G Ray McCallum (Birmingham DCD) UofDetroit Mercy – About to set the Horizon League ON FIRE this winter. WILL be playing at the next level!!!
G Darnell Brown (Birmingham DCD) Bowling Green – High-quality MAC player in the backcourt for BG, who is a leader in the locker room and in the huddle alas his time leading DCD to a state title as a junior in '07
G Anthony Fields (Lake Orion) Wake Forest – I said it at the time when they were teammates at Lake Orion a few years back that Fields would be a better college player than Drew Maynard….It looks like Burney is fixing to be right on the MONEY on that one!!!
G Jalen Crawford (Oak Park) Bradley – Another in a long line of Crawford boyz who can STRAIGHT BALL like a ROCK STAR (see older brothers, Jordan and Joe)
F Austin Calhoun (Southfield) Bowling Green – In the midst of a very good college career in the MAC as the leading returning scorer for BG in '12
F Roy Marble, Jr (Southfield-Lathrup) Iowa – I smell a breakout campaign for RBJ this season with the Hawkeyes……Big 10, watch out!!!
C Da' Shonte Riley (Birmingham DCD) Eastern Michigan – Has the opportunity to turn himself into an NBA prospect under Rob Murphy…..can SWAT with the best of them in the post.
G Kyle Vinales (North Farmington) Central Connecticut State – KV has serious nose for the hoop. A natural born scorer with an extremely quick first step
G Carlton Brundidge (Southfield) Michigan – About to unleash his bulldog-style of game to the Big 10….very fitting!!!
F Dave Curletti (OL St. Mary's) Northwestern – Floor-burn specialist that is the definition of what both CHSL and Big 10 basketball is all about
F Donovan Kirk (Birmingham DCD) Depaul – Rangy forward with a high upside
