Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Instant Feedback - Down Goes The Champ

Comments from Saturday's prep football action;
The King is Dead!!!!, The King is the Dead!!!!!
Brother Rice got SUPER BUSY and SHOCKED THE WORLD by DOMINATING nationally-ranked and defending D2 state champion FH Harrison 30-7 in a surprisingly lopsided district final. The best way to describe my feelings on the outcome of the much-anticipated rematch of last year's classic district opener is MAD IMPRESSIVE!!!!!
Loving what my boyz akaTHE PRIMETIME POSSEE aka the Rice backfield of Devin "Primetime # 1" Church and Brian "Primetime Jr" aka Primetime # 2" Walker are doing toting the rock lately - specifically what they did on Saturday without "Primetime # 3" aka Deshun Brown, who was out with a foot injury.
-          Church (160, 2 TDSs) is making a very strong case for himself as the best tailback in the state right now

-          Walker (80 yds, 2 TDs) is finally coming into his own BIG TIME….just ask the Hawks
Then there was the Rice D aka "The Electric Company". They were downright ELECTRIC, totally stifling the explosive Harrison offense. PROPS ROLL CALL - Reshke, Cherrochi, Doman, Bouchard, Perkovic, Hendrix, Kidd, Bua, Ferguson, Ellwanger, Rabban, etc...

And what about my main man Brian Roney, the Warriors' team captain and starting wide receiver? Roney had a couple HUMONGOUS plays to set-up Rice touchdowns. It's the kind of leadership Roney provides in the huddle and in the locker room that has been one of the major things leading to the Warriors's current late-season surge
Was that Mike Schultz out there on defense for the Novi Detroit CC Shamrocks or was it a runaway FREIGHT TRAIN?  Schultz stopped Canton star running back Kevin Buford with a game-clinching tackle on 4th down late in CC's 21-14 comeback win. That's three straight district titles for TEAM MACH and ROCKNATION!!!
We're a week past Halloween, but Southfield senior QB Justin Danzy came dressed to the Bluejays district championship game against Farmington in costume as a SURGEON. Danzy dissected the Falcons defense for 230 yards on 16-of-20 passing and two TDs, sparking Southfield to a commanding 27-9 victory. Danzy and junior WR Trey Walton are like a 2011 version of Eddie "The Real Deal" Beal and De Andre Sutton of the 'Jays '08 regional title squad
Southfield junior linebackers Jeff Madison and Willie Duncan are a DYNAMIC PAIR on the gridiron!!!!! Madison and Duncan combined for 22 tackles versus Farmington
Southfield senior cornerback Leviticus Payne = LOCKDOWN SPECIALIST!!!!
Payne went all DEION SANDERS and returned a Falcons fumble 82 yards for a touchdown
