Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Fast Out Of The Gate

Erich Harris, Walled Lake Western's junior baseball standout, might have not made a lot of preseason top player rankings this year, but he's a player to keep an eye on.
Big, strong and athletic, Harris has loads of pop in his bat and a laser of an arm from the outfield in left.
In Western's first game of the season, he crushed a home run in a 10-8 Warriors victory over Novi Detroit Catholic Central.
He was back at it again on Wednesday.
Harris spearheaded Western's 9-4 win over Novi, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate, including another homer, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.
This kid is a BALLER & a SHOT CALLER and a big reason why I give the Warriors an edge in bringing home their first league crown since 2009 come June.
With the likes of Harris and other GEMS such as Cam Vieaux, Jason Gamble, and Nik Heglin in the fold for TEAM LARGES over at Western, the Warriors are fixing to put together a memorable campaign on the diamond in 2012.
