Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Five For Fighting - Thursday Night Raw

Five For Fighting – The OC's top prep sports performances from Thursday
1 Anna Robb (Waterford  Lakes girls soccer)
The Lakers sensational sophomore two-sport star Anna Robb notched a hat trick…….IN THE 1st HALF, to lead WOLL to a 9-1 lambasting of Catholic League arch rival MC Cardinal Mooney. Back in the winter, Robb was a starter on the school's state championship basketball squad. CAN U SAY CLUTCH?
2 Gabe Berman (BH Andover baseball)
"Gabe the Babe" was his usual RUTHIAN SELF, going 4-for-6 with 2 RBI from the plate on the day and tossing a 5-hitter with 8 ks in leading the Barons to a win in the backend of a doubleheader split with AH Avondale
3 Taylor Timko (Pontiac NDP girls soccer) – The OC's very own MIA HAMM, NDP's high-octane forward continued her torrid scoring pace, punching in a pair of goals to spearhead the Fighting Irish to a 2-0 downing of Dearborn Divine Child, clinching them a regular season league title. Timko, already committed to Michigan, has 20 goals already this season, adding to her 21 tallies she posted last year as a freshman.
4 Seth Rayburn-Vince Montoro-Kyle Harris (Novi Franklin Rd Christian baseball)
The Warriors Terrorizing Triumvirate each blasted a home run in the team's 11-4 defeat of league foe AP Inter-City Baptist. DO I SMELL DISTRICT TITLE? I think I do!!!!!
5 Ted Lilly (WL Northern baseball)
The Knights SUPER STEADY senior went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three stolen bases, one of which was of home plate in WLN's 14-8 victory over Pinckney. Like Robb at Lakes, Lilly is a two-sport STUD, also starring on the Knights football team the last couple falls. Northern keeps impressing on the diamond this spring, moving its record to 10-5 on the year with the explosive triumph.

Franklin Road has won two district titles. Baseball (1997) and Volleyball (1999).
