Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Warrior Hoops Bulletin

Some news from the Walled Lake Western basketball program:
Senior forward Aaron Prim signed with Delta College up in Frankenmuth this week. The 6-foot-7 Prim is spry on his feet and a powerful presence around the rim. He averaged close to a double-double last season with the Warriors, putting up 11 points and 9 rebounds a game. When he was a junior at Detroit Osborne in 2011, Prim led his squad to a Class B district title, while averaging 14 points and 8 rebounds a night. Finishing 10-13 in 2011, Delta has numerous Oakland County cage studs on its incoming roster, including Ferndale's terrorizing twosome of point guard Jody Hill and forward Rex Jenkins, Troy Athens dazzling big-guard duo of Caleb McIntosh and Marcarius Coakley and Southfield-Lathrup's Bernard Whitehead, a hard working wing with a significant upside.
It appears that star freshman floor general, Jalin Gardner, one of the state's top prep backcourt prospects in the Class of 2015 has left Western and will be playing in the PSL this winter for his sophomore season. Nothing is in stone yet, but Gardner announced his intentions on leaving the Warriors program earlier in the month. Last season, he put up 8 points and 5.5 assists a game, while starting every game at the point and showing tremendous improvement over the course of the up-and-down campaign. I will be sad if Garnder indeed decides not to return to TEAM RA RA. It would be a tough loss for Coach Murray and Western, but also the county high school basketball scene as a whole.
