Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Tiger Town

Princeton University is building a pipeline feeding stellar athletes from Birmingham Detroit Country Day to the Tigers’ athletic program on its beautiful campus in New Jersey.

First, Princeton landed former Country Day three-sport star Jason Ray back in 2010, currently a junior linebacker on the Tigers football team.

Now, they’ve snatched up Yellowjackets two-sport stud John Hill, who is expected to suit up for both Princeton’s football and track & field squads once he hits campus this fall.

Hill is a STRAIGHT-UP SPEED DEMON. He was a yardage-chugging tailback for Country Day on the gridiron the past three years and an OUTRIGHT FREAK on the track surface, continually showing off his WHEELS of STEEL!!

Ray was a standout on DCD’s football, basketball and track & field squads while in high school.

All Burney can say is Princeton is an elite institution of higher learning, so the burgeoning relationship between itself and well-known blue chip factory DCD is a marriage made in heaven.
