Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Emotions are sure to be at a fevered pitch in a few months when All-American boys hoopster James Young and his new Rochester squad squares off with Troy, the team he has played with the past three years, in the 2012-2013 season-opener.
Are you kidding me? TEAM PLEASANT/YOUNG v. TEAM FRALICK is going to be headlining the slate for the area's boys basketball season-openers in early December? What a way to tip-off the schedule!!
I, for one, couldn't be more excited!!! Can you say ALL OUT GRUDGE MATCH?
Last week, Young shocked the state by officially leaving Troy, where he was coming off back-to-back first-team all-state campaigns while leading the Colts to consecutive league championships, and transferring to Rochester for his senior year.
Considered one of the top five high school players in the whole country, Young will team with returning Falcons' standouts and fellow seniors Arben Camaj (center) and Manny Mendoza (wing) to give Rochester a good shot at winning the program's first district crown since the 1980s
Entering the upcoming season, head coach John Pleasant and Rochester have raised a pair of OAA Blue titles in a row.
Troy will be paced by the backcourt of seniors Zak Noor and Joe Leonard and junior forwards Craig Duggan and Danny Wunderlich.
