Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Fearsome Field Marshall

Southfield High School rising junior football star Lawrence Marshall is getting bum-rushed by college recruiters.
Marshall, a 6-foot-4, 230 pound defensive lineman, received three scholarship offers last week, from Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and San Diego State.
This kid is a quarterback's worst nightmare, a speed demon with an aggressive nature and a nasty attitude on the field and the high-level D1's are starting to sniff in his direction.
There's no question, Marshall is one of the state's best Class of 2014 recruits on defense and will keep the Bluejays active and hungry up front until the day he plays his final game as a prepster.
Coming up this week for Marshall and his Southfield GRIDIRON GLADIATORS is a crosstown clash with rival Southfield-Lathrup on Friday.
The defending D2 district champion Bluejays are 4-3 going into play in Week 8.
